Notably, in captivity, their coloration often becomes darker, possibly due to changes in their ability to regulate body temperature.<\/span><\/p>\n

The reasons behind the extreme danger of this species remain not fully understood.<\/span><\/p>\n

One widely accepted hypothesis suggests that around 11,000 years ago, rising sea levels separated Ilha de Queimada Grande from mainland Brazil. This isolation forced the island\u2019s wildlife – especially the golden lancehead viper – to adapt to harsh conditions and an extremely limited food supply, consisting mainly of migratory birds.<\/span><\/p>\n
